This was a silly little project that I played around with in front of the telly last night.
I jotted down the pattern as I went along but I am no pattern writer so please bear with me. I will improve the instructions at a later date hopefully but maybe this will help you get started.
I used drops uni colour 100% cotton in Aran weight with a 5mm hook.
The eggs inside were the cheap plastic eggs that pop open and I but some rice inside to make the egg rattle. Rookie mistake though – tape up the egg before you start crocheting. I didn’t and now if you squish the egg it pops open inside – hopefully the rice will still stay inside though.
- Make a magic loop with 5 single crochet.
- 2 single crochet in each stitch. (10)
- (2 sc in next stitch, 1 in the next) repeat 5 times (15)
- (2 sc in next stitch, 1 in the next) repeat 7 times, finish with a sc in the last stitch (22)
- (1sc, 1sc, 1sc, 2 in next stitch) repeat 5 times. 1 sc in each of the last 2 stitches. (27)
- Single crochet in each stitch. (27)
- (1sc, 1 sc, 1 sc, 2tog) repeat 5 times. 1 sc in the last two stitches (22)
- Single crochet in each stitch (22)
- (1 sc, 1 sc, 2tog) repeat 5 times. 1sc in the last 2 stitches (17)
- Single crochet in each stitch (17)
- Single crochet in each stitch (17)
- (1 sc, 1sc, 2tog) 4 times. Sc in last stitch. (13)
- Single crochet in first 9 stitches. Chain 7. 2 sc in second chain from hook, half double in next, 2x double crochet in next, double crochet , double crochet, half double. Skip the next single crochet of your original round and single crochet in next to join the ear to the eggs. Chain 7, single crochet in the second stitch from the hook, half double, double crochet ,double crochet, half double. Single crochet in the last stitch of the egg.
- 2tog x4. Single crochet in the next stitch. Single crochet in stitch between ears and last stitch of round. Run a gathering stitch to draw in and finish off.
I made the ears bigger by adding a row of single crochet around each ear in a contrasting colour. I stitched in the front loop only on the way up and the back loop only on the way down each ear to add shape.
I stitched a abstract nose on the front.
I hope this makes sense. I only jotted it down in case I wanted to make another but since I did I thought that I would share. I tend to crochet amiguami pretty tight so you may need to alter the stitches as you go. I just made it up as I went to keep the crochet quite tight to the egg. Good luck!
