For this little project I was inspired by these little sound makers that I bought at a craft fair. They are sealed rattle units used to make baby toys and were calling out to become doughnuts!!
I used cotton DK and a 3.5mm hook (although next time I might try a 3mm as the holes were a bit big when stuffed).
For the Doughnut
Chain 22
Round 1: SC in each stitch. (22)
Round 2: SC in each stitch. (22)
Round 3: 2 SC in each stitch (44)
Round 4: SC in each stitch (44)
Round 5: (2SC. SC) 22 times (66)
Round 6: SC in each stitch (66)
Round 7: (2SC. SC. SC) 22 times (88)
Round 8: SC in each stitch (88)
Round 9: (2SC. SC. SC. SC) 22 times (110)
Round 10: SC in each stitch (110)
Round 11: SC in each stitch (110)
Round 12: SC in each stitch (110)
Round 13: SC in each stitch (110)
Round 14: (SC2TOG. SC. SC. SC) 22 times (88)
Round 15: SC in each stitch (88)
Round 16: (SC2TOG. SC. SC) 22 times (66)
Round 17: SC in each stitch. (66)
Round 18: (SC2TOG. SC) 22 times (44)
Round 19: SC in each stitch (44)
Place doughnut rattle inside now.
Round 20: SC2TOG 22 times. (22)
Round 21: SC in each stitch (22)
Round 22: SC in each stitch (22)
Round 23: SC in each stitch (22)
Add plenty of stuffing and sew up the centre. This is tricky as the hole is small and the stuffing is in the way but match stitch to stitch and you will get there.
Chain 10. Close with slip and chain 2.
Round 1: DC into ring 12 times.
Continue using back loops only for the rest of the pattern. Do not join up each round but with continue in a spiral.
Round 2: (2DC. DC) 6 times. (18)
Round 3: 2DC in each (36)
Round 4: (2DC, DC) (44)
Round 5: (2DC. DC) (62)
Round 6: (2DC. DC) (80)
Round 7: (SC. SC. DC. SC. 2 TC in same stitch. DC. DC. SC. SC. Slip stitch) 8 times.
Sew in sprinkles of your choice and tie in the back to secure.
Sew in your frosting and you are done!
